What is Travel Medicine?

International travel often poses risks that the traveler may overlook in the excitement leading up to the trip. That is why Hoag Medical Group (HMG) has developed travel medicine services. The focus of travel medicine services at HMG is prevention. During the pre-travel consultation, we begin by assessing the patient’s overall health and fitness for travel. Next, we review the itinerary in order to create an individualized plan to decrease each patient’s travel risks. To maximize the benefit of the consultation, patients are advised to make an appointment at least six weeks in advance of travel.

During your pre-travel consultation,we will discuss:

  • Deep Venous Thrombosis
  • Altitude Sickness
  • Routine Vaccinations
  • Malaria
  • Traveler’s Disease
  • Travel-Specific Vaccines

Meet Dr. Wasbin

Stan Wasbin, M.D. is an experienced physicians and certified in travel medicine.  During his 30 year career, Dr. Wasbin has had the opportunity to practice medicine in a variety of settings which includes the University of California, Irvine Student Health Center, a community clinic in Laguna Beach, the U.S. Air Force, and several walk-in clinic locations. During this time, he has appreciated the opportunity to meet various patients and provide the care they deserve. He is a firm believer in preventative medicine and strongly encourages -pre travel medical consultations for anyone planning to travel outside of the country.
